"You shouldn't spend your whole life regretting things you have done in the past. Move on. The future will be brighter. You need to just do whatever makes you happy and not worry about what society thinks."
This aphorism is covering the theme of regret; holding on to a past mistake and not forgiving yourself for what you have done. This aphorism could be very helpful for people who hate the past mistakes they have done and wont let go of those choices. People who suffer from regret always need to hear words of encouragement to help them move along in life, its what you are going to do that matters not what you did. I can't make any cultural connections to this aphorism but i do know from past experiences that words like these, when repeated enough and by many people, can really help people who strongly regret what they have chosen to do in the past. A question i have on this topic is what is truly holding these people back? you tell them these words and most of the time they recognize they need to move on. But people tend to not listen to these kinds of words from one person unless they truly take these words to heart. Mitch regretted not ever keeping in touch with Morrie, which is a good example from the book that covers this theme of regret. But like i asked, what helped him move on? Hearing these kinds of words?
